The Inner Man by Hannah Hurnard ISBN: 0-89540-256-4 Sun Books Sun Publishing P.O. Box 5588, Santa Fe, NM 37502-5588 http://www.sunbooks.com/ A Book Review Hannah Hurnard’s The Inner Man is reported to be Hannah’s final work and was published following her death. By the end of Hannah’s life she had revealed many occultic ideas that she embraced as truth. The Inner Man exemplifies many of these unorthodox teachings. The Inner Man is so unorthodox that it is only distributed by Sun Books, a publisher who commonly sells New Age titles. (Other titles by Sun are about Astrology, Clairvoyance, Crystals, Hypnotism, Occult, Palmistry, Yoga and some subjects of a less controversial nature.) Although I do not agree with much of what Sun Books publishes they have performed a necessary service by making Hannah’s final work available and we note that they were most professional in their business dealings. Nevertheless, my Christian bookstore had no way to order from Sun through their usual "Christian books" suppliers. Yes, Hannah’s final book definitely falls under New Age literature and is categorized under, THE SOUL, WESTERN MYSTICISM, and METAPHYSICS. The Inner Man gives Hannah's full interpretation of Hinds’ Feet. The unfortunate part of the story was that Christians have failed to discern that Hannah’s table was laced with deadly deception from the beginning. In The Inner Man Hannah weaves together her new age teachings and Scripture with such beguiling skill that she, without debate, proves herself to be a sorceress of the first order. The witch at Endor did not display a fraction of Hannah’s spiritual treachery. Hannah uses Scripture with more skill than Satan in Matthew Chapter Four. Hannah has come into the hearts of many believers and sewed tares and confusion. She has also removed the true Cross and planted an anti-cross in its place. Her doctrine has in effect removed God from His place of power and given man preeminence! How unfortunate that so many Christians are embracing Hannah’s "holiness through suffering" message and are deserting the unique Gospel of complete and free salvation. Hannah Hurnard’s book The Inner Man is certainly the most perverse book I have ever read. In the pages of her book she teaches:
Hannah hangs all of her advanced heresies upon her Hinds’ Feet on High Places message of personal sacrifice and suffering as the prerequisite for coming into unity with Christ. She says that once a person reaches unity with Christ they will then be able to receive the revelations and psychic powers listed above. pp. 106-108 Let the reader proceed with caution!!! Hannah’s inner revelations are not from the Scripture but from a light that is generated in man’s inner soul. This constitutes a retreat from the truth of Scripture, which, Hannah amply demonstrated when Jesus allegedly spoke to her and said it was OK to communicate with the dead! Because of this revelation Hannah not only spoke to her departed mother but also to multitudes of departed saints! Hannah said that Jesus made himself the medium for these forbidden talks. p. 50-55 Hannah asserts that matched souls of the dead and living "flock" together and we can become cognizant of these meetings by entering the "mystic way." p. 50-53 After considering Hannah's Theology who would want to be identified with any of her works? |
